Course overview

Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry lies at the interphase of pharmacy and chemistry. The objective of this course is to familiarize students with the fundamental concepts of drug classification, administration and development. Synthetic techniques and pathways for the development of selected antimicrobial and pharmacodynamic drugs of are taught as part of this course. All the instructors of the course are well-qualified, knowledgeable experienced passionate teachers of chemistry. Learners of this course can aspire for higher education as well as placement opportunities in the pharmacy as well as chemistry disciplines. 

What will i learn?

  •  Recognise the importance of medicinal chemistry in daily life, identify the use of chemical compounds in drug designing and explain drug target interactions of enzymes and receptors .
  •  Classify and name drugs on scientific lines and apply principles of drug administration.
  •  Sketch the step wise mechanism for the synthesis of sulphanilamide, Penicillin G, Erythromycin, Chloroquine, Paracetamol, Salbutamol, diazepam and frusemide
  •  Identify the causes and effects for HIV, identify the most suitable confirmatory test- ELISA and discuss the structures of Nelfinavir and Indivanir.
  •  Use the analytical and synthetic skills for successful careers in production section of pharmaceutical industries.
Requirements
  • Any PC or laptop or tab or android phone with good internet connectivity. Any enthusiastic learner with the basic knowledge in chemistry is eligible to pursue the course. Having chemistry as one of the subjects at 10+2 level is desirable
